All-on-4 Recovery Timeline: What to Expect Day by Day

The short answer

Most All-on-4 and All-on-6 patients are through the worst of recovery within a week. Expect peak swelling and bruising at days two to three, easing markedly by day five to seven; mild discomfort controlled by ordinary painkillers; a soft diet for six to eight weeks while the implants integrate; and a return to most normal activity within a few days. The final bridge is fitted three to six months later. For Turkey treatment this means one trip of about five to seven days for surgery and same-day temporary teeth, then a second short trip for the permanent bridge. Taki Dent coordinates both visits and aftercare.

What happens in the first week?

Day one is the surgery and your fixed temporary teeth. That evening and the next day you rest, use cold compresses and take the prescribed painkillers and antibiotics. Swelling and bruising typically peak around days two to three — this looks more dramatic than it feels and is entirely normal. By day five to seven most of it has subsided and many patients feel surprisingly well.

Discomfort is usually described as manageable and far less than people fear — comparable to a tooth extraction, not major surgery. Sticking to soft, lukewarm foods and gentle salt-water rinsing keeps things on track.

StageTimingWhat to expect
Surgery + temporary teethDay 1Fixed temporary fitted same day
Peak swellingDays 2–3Normal, eases quickly
Feeling betterDays 5–7Most swelling gone
Soft-diet healingWeeks 1–8Implants integrate
Permanent bridgeMonths 3–6Final zirconia teeth

What about the weeks and months after?

For the first six to eight weeks the implants are fusing with the bone — the critical osseointegration phase. You wear the temporary bridge and follow a soft diet, avoiding hard and chewy foods that could overload the healing implants. Most people return to work and normal routines within a few days; the soft diet is the main ongoing restriction.

At three to six months the implants are fully integrated and the permanent bridge — usually zirconia — is fitted. From then you eat normally and the teeth are designed to last for decades.

How does this map onto a Turkey trip?

The timeline fits two visits neatly. Trip one is around five to seven days: consultation and CT, surgery, same-day temporary teeth, and a review before you fly home with healing well underway. You then recover at home in the UK on your soft diet. Trip two, a few months later, is shorter — a handful of days to fit and adjust the permanent bridge. Aftercare in between can be coordinated with your own UK dentist.

Frequently asked questions

How painful is All-on-4 recovery?

Most patients compare it to having teeth extracted rather than major surgery. Ordinary prescribed painkillers control it, and the worst is usually over within a few days.

When can I eat normally again?

You eat soft foods for about six to eight weeks while the implants integrate, then return to a normal diet once the permanent bridge is fitted at three to six months.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey?

About five to seven days for the surgery and same-day teeth, then a second short trip of a few days a few months later for the permanent bridge.
