Full-Arch Implants vs Single Implants: Which Do You Need?

The short answer

Single implants replace one or a few missing teeth, each with its own implant and crown. Full-arch implants (All-on-4 / All-on-6) replace an entire row of teeth with a fixed bridge on just four to six implants. The tipping point is usually around six or more missing or failing teeth in one jaw: beyond that, full-arch is cheaper per tooth, faster and more predictable than many single implants. If you have most of your own healthy teeth, single implants are right; if a whole arch is failing, full-arch is the better engineering and value. Taki Dent plans both from one CT scan.

What is the real difference?

A single implant is a standalone tooth: one titanium root, one abutment, one crown. It is the gold standard for replacing an individual missing tooth without touching the neighbours. Full-arch implant treatment takes a different approach — instead of one implant per tooth, four to six implants support a single bridge carrying ten to twelve teeth.

The maths is what surprises people. Replacing twelve teeth with twelve single implants is far more expensive, more surgically demanding and slower than replacing them with an All-on-4 bridge on four implants. Full-arch is engineered for the many-missing-teeth situation.

When do single implants stop making sense?

The practical tipping point is when you are missing — or about to lose — roughly six or more teeth in one jaw, or when the remaining teeth are unrestorable. At that point, propping up a failing dentition with individual implants becomes more costly and less predictable than starting fresh with a full-arch bridge.

There is also a strategic question: if your remaining teeth are likely to fail within a few years, paying to save them and then converting to full-arch later doubles the cost. A specialist will tell you honestly when it is time to stop patching and plan a whole-arch solution.

Which is better value for UK patients?

Per tooth, full-arch wins decisively once you are replacing most of an arch. In Turkey an All-on-4 arch costs roughly £4,500–£7,500; the equivalent in single implants and crowns would run far higher. For one or two teeth, single implants are obviously the right and cheaper choice. The decision is driven by how many teeth are involved, not by preference.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix single implants and a full-arch bridge?

In the same mouth, yes — one jaw might suit single implants while the other needs full-arch. They are planned together from one CT scan so the bite works as a whole.

Is full-arch cheaper than replacing every tooth individually?

Once you are replacing roughly six or more teeth in an arch, yes. Four to six implants carrying a bridge costs far less than that many individual implants and crowns.

Should I save failing teeth or go full-arch?

If teeth are likely to fail within a few years, paying to save them then converting later usually costs more. A specialist will advise honestly based on your prognosis.
